Gas Lines can look and be configured differently from location to location. There are also many different places you can find a gas line. To your cooktop and oven/range, dryer, water heater, indoor fireplace, garage heater, furnace, outdoor fireplace or firepit. If you ever think you “might” detect a smell of natural gas, it’s important to get it checked out by a professional. Every item fueled by natural gas will have a shut off valve located near the item.

For example, if the natural gas you smell is near your water heater, you can shut the gas off to just the water heater. To the left you will see a photo of a gas valve shut off. When this valve is parallel to the gas line, this means the gas is in the “on” position. To turn the gas off to the water heater, simply turn this valve 90° until it is perpendicular to the gas line. The photo we have shown here has a red gas valve. This valve could be green, blue, yellow, or possibly another color.

CMP Plumbing can also run new gas lines. If you’re adding a gas fueled item, our plumber will need to collect information in order to provide an accurate estimate. We would need to know what the item is you are installing and how many BTU’s. This will help ensure the gas line we install is sized properly. Our plumber would then make a visit to your home, and measure the distance from the current gas line to the new item. In certain cases of adding or moving gas lines, we may have to cut drywall. We will cover these possibilities with you when providing your estimate.
