Behind a wall of beautiful tile and shower heads and handles, you could find this maze of plumbing lines and connections. At CMP Plumbing, you can trust our expert plumbers to install these lines correctly. No one would want to find a leak in this wall after moving all their belongings in their home. Likewise, this plumbing could be installed in a remodel of your current bathroom. Water lines and valves can be found in walls, under floors, and in ceilings all over your home. It’s very important that the plumbers installing these items are experienced and knowledgeable. If you do find a leak, the best thing to do is turn off the water to your home and call a licensed plumber.

Water Main Shut Off Valve

Water main shut offs (also called main water shut off) can typically be found in a garage, basement, mechanical room, laundry room, near the water softener, or in a hall closet, all depending on your home and when it was built. Every home has a water main shut off somewhere. If you have constant flowing water inside your home, you can turn this shut off to the off position to stop the flow of water into your home. This will also shut off water to outside hose spigots. Additionally, if this valve is leaking, it can, and should be replaced. Water main shut offs can also be relocated if doing a remodel or if they are located in an inconvenient location. We have seen instances where a water main shut off valve is very old and not as effective as it should be. If you turn your water main shut off valve to the off position and water continues to flow, unfortunately, this item will need replaced.

We do not want to confuse the indoor water main with the outside water meter. The outside water meter is typically near the street and lies beneath a metal lid. The water meter shut off valve shuts off the water between the meter and your main shut off valve inside your home.
